PHILADEPHIA -- More than 1,600 children suffer serious head injuries every day and more must be done to prevent these traumatic brain injuries (TBI), University of Pennsylvania public health researcher Flaura Winston told Congress. Testifying in a House hearing, the Director of the Center for Injury Research and Prevention at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia said the country spends $29 billiion to treat pediatric TBI patients who die, and another $53 billion to care for those who are hospitalized and live.
