Healthcare Transformation: The Dance of Disruptors, Incumbents, and Rule-Makers

The business opportunities and challenges presented by the sweeping reinvention of the U.S. health care system were the focus of the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School's 2014 Healthcare Management Alumni Association (WHCMAA) annual conference. The one-day event brought together panels of government officials, top medical authorities, health care delivery system CEOs and executives from various segments of the medical device industry. Above left, Bryan Bushick, MD, MBA, co-chair of the conference, moderates the first session featuring Wharton Alumni Mitchell Blutt, MD, MBA, CEO of health care-focused investment firm Consonance Capital and Mark Smith, MD, MBA, Founding President of the California HealthCare Foundation and Senior Policy Fellow at the Harvard School of Public Health.
